2008 College Football Preview, Haiku Style: THE SEC

I don’t see the point of writing a long-winded preview of the 2008 college football season when you can go to Books-A-Million or Barnes and Noble to find 300+ pages of amazing writing from, say, Phil Steele, all for less than $10.

So I want to keep things as short as possible while still providing my opinion on the final conference standings, bowl matchups and ultimately the BCS title game next January in Miami.

The result: Haikus for every team, every conference, every bowl matchup Division I-A has to offer this year. First up, the “best” conference in the land, the SEC.

Warning: These haikus will probably suck.

SEC East

1. Florida Gators

Tebow is the man
No consecutive road games
Meyer the best coach

2. Georgia Bulldogs

Schedule too difficult
Four straight away from Sanford
Will not beat Auburn

3. Tennessee Volunteers

Being doubted again
Experienced in right spots
Sleeper pick for champ

4. South Carolina Gamecocks

Strong defense helps Steve
All new starters in backfield
Must prove they can win

5. Kentucky Wildcats

Only five road games
But lost Woodson and Little
Will be threat every week

6. Vanderbilt Commodores

Offense is too young
Twenty-six years and no bowl game
That won’t change this year

SEC West

1. Auburn Tigers

Offense is brand new
Having LSU game home is huge
Must decide on QB now

2. LSU Tigers

October brutal
A program in constant flux
Never doubt Miles

3. Ole Miss Rebels

Talented backfield
Nutt inherits experience
Slate easier than most

4. Alabama Crimson Tide

Will lose all road games
Season hinges on Clemson
Will Wilson step up?

5. Mississippi State Bulldogs

Better this season
Pegues leads very strong defense
September is key

6. Arkansas Razorbacks

Bobby can recruit
Mallett will be a star soon
Will win four games top

Florida VS Auburn

Great spread offense battle
Gators have the advantage
Auburn back next year
